The old colonial bungalow was previously the home of Sir Cudah Ratwatte, the patriarch of the island’s leading aristocratic family. Many elephants were once housed in the gardens of his old plantation – hence the name The Elephant Stables.
Feedback from guests describes The Elephant Stables as having probably the friendliest staff of any hotel in Sri Lanka. This is due to the hotel’s unique mix of hospitality professionals working alongside staff sourced from local villages.
